Here comes the sun! August 21 2018 News

Well, it finally looks like the forecast is taking a turn for sun and we couldn’t be more ready. As farmers, we are usually the only folks who don’t mind a bit of rain here and there. It makes our lives a little easier when we don’t have to worry about the added step of irrigation. But, these past two weeks have been just a little too hydrating for even our liking. You see, at this point in the season most of our crops have been transplanted, and our gears have shifted to the upkeep of the farm as a “whole-system.” With that in mind, weeding is a big part of the general upkeep. Not only does it keep the farm looking beautiful for our lovely shareholders, but by getting the weeds before they have a chance to go to seed, we are setting ourselves up for a decreased seed bank in our soil. What that means is that those pesky lambs quarter and amaranth wont have the chance to over winter in the ground and emerge as little surprises all over the fields next season. With all this rain, however, those weeds that we’ve been pulling out like it’s our job (see what what did there?), have just been re-rooting with smug indifference. No more! With all the sun in the forecast, those weeds will get a nice baking and hopefully allow us the time to catch up!

But enough about the weeds, on to this weeks harvest!
