Turn your apples into bacon! September 25 2018 News

This week we enter the final month of CSA harvests. Mark your calendars for the week of October 15th being the end of the 2018 CSA season. The weekend before that we will host a Harvest Dinner at the farm, so while you are in calendar marking mode, reserve Saturday October 13th 4-7pm for an evening of good food and warm company. But don’t get sad yet, we’ve still got a lot of great food coming your way before then!
Yesterday we moved the pigs a bit closer to the farm stand, so feel free to cross the road and visit them in their new pasture below the blue wagon. The pigs will spend the next month rooting up this section of field in preparation for it to be planted with vegetable crops next year. In addition to grass and grubs and grain and veggie scraps, the pigs LOVE apples. If you have an apple tree dropping more fruit than you can use, our pigs are happy to take the surplus off  your hands! You can either toss the fruit into their pen yourself and watch them frolic around gobbling it up, or leave it outside the CSA barn for us to dish out at morning feeding time. **Their fence is electric, but the section between their quonset hut houses is not.**
And now, onto this week’s harvest!
