We are doing our rain dances today in hopes of a good soaking. After one of the wettest early springs on record, I never thought I would want to see another puddle again! But the weather pattern has shifted and the gardens are thirsty. Our fall seeding of beets and spinach is just emerging in the field and will be happy for a first drink, as will the lettuce, chard, winter squash, cabbages, celeriac and more starting to size up for harvest! So bring on the rain!
And don’t worry about the crew staying dry; we’ve got plenty of tomato trellising and garlic cleaning to keep us busy in the shelter of the hoop houses today. As usually happens when we are working together, I’m sure the talk will turn to food! We often spend the hours before lunch and dinner dreaming up delectable ideas for our veggies. Recent suggestions have included Olai’s blueberry sweet corn scones, Taylor’s kale pesto pizza topped with roasted veggies, and Meg’s sweet and spicy grilled summer squash. In honor of the peak of summer eating, we’d love to hear what you are doing with your Sweetland veggies! Send us a recipe, tag us in an instagram photo, or bring a dish to our Midsummer Eve Potluck this Sunday at 4pm.
In the mean time, here’s what we’ll be cooking with this week!
Cheers, Norah and the Sweetland Crew
